paying homage to Jelly Roll Morton - one of the most instrumental figures in the development of Jazz, this performance accentuates the shrouded contribution of prostitutes and madams in modern musical heritage.

at the turn of the 20th cen. when the industry shied away from a legion of black pianists improvising syncopated tunes (now known as Ragtime, the precursor of Jazz), brothels recognized the music’s innovation and vivacity. these establishments subsidized Jazz musicians by hiring them to play live at the venues, propelling the undulating rhythm that is characteristic of the art form. 

we manifests this stylistic development of Jazz at its genesis and survey its contemporary equivalents. rather than presenting a Jazz concert, the performance emanates from the music’s inventive, free-form and once obscure nature.

we inquired into historical brothels to internalize the sonic atmosphere they induced.

currently, we are evaluating the music landscape to derive a blanket direction for scoring.
